Letters: Arboretum memories

Thank you for the wonderful Arboretum story and pictures [“For All the Right Seasons,” Fall 2009 On Wisconsin]. I grew up in [the Nakoma neighborhood], and from the marsh marigolds, to the “stay away from the C.C.C. boys,” to the teen-years bike rides, it was a taken-for-granted natural environment.

Now, at eighty-three, I had a recent bout with cancer, and here, far away, I’m especially grateful [for your article].

My mom Lillie Francis (formerly McCormick) and I have fun on the phone googling old friends. Today we googled her old chum Pat Melgard (formerly Sevringhaus) which led us to this delightful letter. Having also grown up in Madison my mom shares similar fond Arboretum memories. I’d like to say a big ‘Hello’ to Pat from my mom.
