Artwork That Explains Itself

A mural in the UW Discovery Building embeds QR codes in its scientific imagery.

Colorful mural depicting a diverse group of scientists working with test tubes and microscopes

You can appreciate Landscape of Discovery at a distance, but you’ll learn more if you get close enough to scan the QR codes embedded in the imagery. They take you to a website with information about both the famous and the underrecognized scientists pictured in the UW Discovery Building’s bold new mural. Created through the UW’s Science to Street Art initiative, Landscape of Discovery is a collaboration among scientists and the artists Sharon Tang PhDx’25 (who took the lead on the project), Amy Zaremba ’05, and Alicia Rheal. It reflects the Discovery Building’s focus on cutting-edge, interdisciplinary work.

This is on your alumni magazine site but you make no mention of any alumni involved or how they were involved. I’d love to learn more about how UW Alumni were involved in this project.
