Snow Removal
When winter pummels Madison, UW grounds department crews work long hours to clear pathways for faculty, staff, and students. Snow clearing usually begins at 1 or 2 a.m., when streets and sidewalks are most likely to be empty. If crew members are too tired after a long shift, or travel is treacherous, it’s not unusual for them to sack out on air mattresses in the grounds shop.
